    Job Summary:  In support of client requirements, the Surveyor position performs boundary retracement surveying, as well as general civil site work and construction layout by planning, conducting, and recording surveys. Office preparation of boundary surveys, mortgage surveys, Subdivision and Lot Consolidation Plans, Courthouse Deed Research. Management of day to day scheduling, and office setup of stakeout data for field survey crews.

    Job Responsibilities:  Plans survey by identifying purpose of survey, such as, topographic, hydrographic, legal, construction, cadastral, and control; researching previous survey evidence, maps, deeds and related records; schedules travel arrangements. Locates and determines land by measuring and calculating points, elevations, lines, angles, areas, and contours; contributing information to Geographic Information systems (GIS); laying out roads and improvements. Records survey by preparing notes, records, drawings; writing legal descriptions; applying computer aided design technologies. Prepares legally defensible findings by following American Land Title Association (ALTA) and American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) guidelines, and related federal, state, and local laws and requirements. Supports legal proceedings by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting evidence; serving as an expert witness. Completes projects by coordinating requirements with acquisition, planning, development, construction, and holdings improvement departments, and government agencies. Updates job knowledge by tracking changes and developments in property law and boundary establishment and replacement; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

    Required Skills/Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have 3 - 5 years of combined field and office experience in the Land Surveying with a working knowledge of boundary retracement surveying, as well as general civil site work and construction layout by planning, conducting, and recording surveys. Ideal candidate should be proficient in the use of office Drafting Software (AutoCAD Civil 3D).
    Candidates must display excellent communication skills and strong customer facing personality in order effectively work with clients and team members.     Job Title: Survey Group Manager/Senior Surveyor, PLS

    Overview: The incumbent is responsible for execution, supervision and management of all survey projects to client requirements and Sheffler & Co. standards. The Survey Group Manager's responsibilities include professional oversight, supervision of and accountabilities of staff, completion and delivery of land survey projects on time and on budget. Responsibilities include proposals, invoicing, A/R, and limited sales & marketing.

    • Manages projects from inception to completion while maintaining a close working relationship with Sheffler clients throughout the project.
    • Supervises office staff and field operations to ensure adequacy and accuracy of field data collection and office deliverables.
    • Develops survey group work environment to ensure team cohesiveness through project completion.
    • Recruit, develop and implement office & field survey teams with goals aligned with those of Sheffler & Co..
    • Provides mentoring, guidance, and professional development training to subordinates.
    • Perform on-site management of survey projects that ensures compliance with safety and quality of work.
    • Provides methods and ideas to accomplish tasks. Researches and investigates new techniques and equipment.

    Knowledge and Skills Required:
    • A higher learning degree in Surveying.
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in boundary & construction surveying.
    • PA Land Surveyor Registration required. OH & WV Certification to be obtained.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is rquired.
    • Excellent Communication Skills.
    • Construction administration experience is an advantage.

    Compensation: Compensation, to a large extent, depends on the personal credentials, competence, relevant work experience, qualifications, ability to develop new clients/work, and performance. In essence, the Survey Group Manager/Senior Surveyor, PLS acts as the leader of the land survey department. It is a position of great responsibility, requiring complete and thorough technical knowledge of surveying practices, techniques, and equipment, with the strongest possible focus on quality. The Survey Group Manager is the leader who conceptualizes the survey project, is responsible for its smooth organization, implementation, and completion, to the satisfaction of the clients. The annual salary of the Survey Group Manager will be consistent with the responsibilities identified above.

    Work Schedule/Transportation: The Survey Group Manager will be provided an office within the Sewickley, PA Headquarters and shall maintain a work schedule suitable for successfully managing the land survey staff. The Survey Group Manager will be issued a Sheffler owned/leased four-wheel drive truck for work related travel. Work related travel to other states/regions is anticipated.

    The key responsibilities of the Director of Surveying span from technical to managerial to strategic, and include the following:

     The primary function of this position is to take on a project manager role within the surveying division at EcoStrategies.  This may include but will not be limited to:  providing all aspects required to complete land surveying projects from start to finish.  Candidates will perform assignments under the direction and supervision of a licensed professional surveyor (PLS) or work independently as an already-licensed surveyor and will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and grow their career.  The position is full-time including benefits (health insurance, paid time off, retirement plan).


    • Familiarity with solo crew operations including robotic total station operation and GNSS receiver operation is preferred.  Familiarity with Leica brand instrumentation also preferred.
