The current inventory of the Mason and Dixon stones is ongoing and has been given a deadline for the first submittal to the Maryland Historic Trust, and will proceed to the National Park Service to have these historic monuments placed on the National Registry of Historic Places for their inclusion and protection.
Richard Ortt, Director of the Maryland Geological Survey (MGS) has stated the main effort to complete inventories on most of the stones shall be completed by the beginning of June 2023 so the completed datasets can be submitted.
Chris Connallan, formerly with the MGS, and continuing as a volunteer in this effort, has provided a progress report (view below) to show the current status of the project, based on the data that he has received through the Survey 123 app. You can view the Google Earth .kmz file below which has points for each of the Mason-Dixon stones along the PA-MD line.
PSLS and MSS will be having a joint meeting on March 14 to coordinate efforts to have organized search parties go out during National Surveyor’s Week (March 19-25, 2023). See meeting details below.
The link for the Monument Inventory Sign-up Sheet in Google Docs, as well as information regarding the use of the Survey 123 ESRI mobile app, and much more, is available on the home page of the Mason Dixon Line Preservation Partnership www.mdlpp.org
Any willing volunteer can sign up to complete an inventory on any of the stones not shown as SUBMITTED.
